Absolutely!
I believe that if they are going to allow 1 religion then they should be forced to allow all religions not just the ones they see as socially acceptable.
isn't that discriminatory? we have freedom of religion and Wiccan is an observed religion in this country so by law they cannot keep him from his beliefs.if i am wrong please let me know.
Any of the pagan/wiccan religions are not federally recognized as of yet and until they do yes they can legally deny it however wrong it is....
This is exactly the kind of bullshit we pagans need to stand against. Why isn't this on the 10 o'clock news? Because people like us don't make a big enough deal over it. We should find out where this prison is and contact local newspapers and whatnot. In my mind this is our responsibility not just as pagans, but as Americans.
benjamin franklin said that it is not only our right but our responsiblity to question authority. i believe this to a tee. just because something has been a certain way for a long time, doesn't mean it should be like that forever. in case you haven't noticed the united states is christian. you may know alot of people who are pagan and think 'outside of the box' but the majority of the USA doesn't. In court they swear on a bible. What would i swear on? what i am trying to say is, it REALLY doesn't surprise me that things like that a jail inmate is being denied practice. IT SHOULD. but it does't and thats wrong. my husband is in the Army over in Iraq and even though the military 'offically' accepts wiccan as a religion, he is still being refused practice as well. he cant have candles, herbs, oils, an altar... etc. he cant have pagan holidays off. he CAN wear a pentacle. thats it! they tell him the reason is nobody in his company is of the same religion to practice with and therefore they cant make time for JUST him. Yes, we should stand against things like this. But who are we going to tell??? the courts?
What we as citizens can do in these Irrational States of Ours is protest, follow the ways of Civil Disobedience. Post our message anywhere it can be seen, regardless of who sees it. Shout it on corners, call news stations, make posters, post videos, organize rallies, just get the word out on the injustice of it. Scream for justice in the faces of anyone who will listen, twice top those who refuse to "hear" the first time. All it takes is a spark...
This is all true however it has to be subtle creating an religious uprising is not the answer, but bringing these issues up to the courts, media, and anyone else who will listen is the correct method as long as we do it appropriately
i got the jail to allow him to have a few books iwent to the mayor and wrotea leeter to our govener and the stae senot. recieved aphone call from the sherrif friday aftenoon telling me that i can bring my husban his religous matterial so i go up there monday morning, hopefull no other person will have togo threw this.but who am i kidding? we all knw we will always fight for r freedom to practic r faith

i would like to say thank you all for your coments and support my husban says thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that he should be able to practice his faith. All the others get to practice their faiths, why not him? They should be fair to all of them. If one gets to practice his/her faith in there. Why not all of them? And yes, I would support his family if they took action.
I am very glad to see that your patience and dedication to your faith paid off in the end, The Goddess truly is with you, we need to take this as a note of how we should handle these times of oppression of religion, we do need to voice our rights and i am in the process of getting a petition drawn up to send to congress to have Wicca/Pagan religions as well as their holidays federally recognized. It will be an electronic (Web Page) petition that once i have it built i will post a link on this groups main page.Blessed Be

I totally agree, there is a right to approach to every situation and we don't want to become like the norm and create confusion to make our stand and get our point across. Charisma and diplomacy is needed to be used in this particular situation, it will go a lot farther.
