A psychologist friend recently told me that all prayer is self talk. He is an athiest. He says that no matter if you pray silently like most Christian religions or chanting out loud like many non-christians... it is still just self talk. If you want something bad enough you will talk yourself into figuring out a way to get it. Often I will hear of an atrocity that one human has done to another... or to a child or animal. When I hear of these things my first response has always been "I don't get it" or "I don't understand how someone could do that". Someone told me once... "Be thankful you don't get it, or don't understand it. If you did... you would be just like them!"

I thank Goddess... I don't get it!

I work with a woman who I have always felt was the most depressed woman I had ever met. We have phone jobs... in collections... and if a customer yelled at her (which happens daily) she would burst into tears. Most of us believe in reincarnation. IMO... reincarnation is to correct what went wrong in previous lives. Karma plays a part in reincarnation (again imo) in that lessons we did not learn in our previous lives come up in our new lives to be learned or corrected. I do not believe that if we did horrible things in our past lives that we are bound to be miserable in our current life.

IMO..Our lives are not predestind as the Christian dogma believes... we are in charge of our own destiny. If we harm someone yes it will come back to us... but it does not apply to everything that happens in our lives. For example... I have a very old car... I know it will break down from time to time... is it Karma that it breaks down after I have a disagreement with someone... or is it just that the car is old and falling apart?
