Because black, in some cultures, has been associated with death and mourning - the more obvious reason would be that black is associated with 'darkness' and 'night' and 'oblivion' and is connected to the fear of the unknown and the unseen.
I agree, Torey. I think they associate black with darkness, physical and spiritual.
i personaly like the color black and dont think its acossiated with any type of religion but thats just me. to me it represents cleanliness and brite things i dont know. and if black is a mourning color, we shuold wear black everyday [which i do] because everday is a day to mourn.

Actually black is all colors... blended into one. However I agree with Torey. The original question was why do people see black as an evil color. I wear black a lot (it flatters my eyes LOL) but in general if you think about it... funerals are filled with people wearing black or somber colors.
because it represents the unknown...and people fear the unknown...and what people fear they view as evil
Well since the romans its been a symbol of death.
Black is the avoidance of all light, but the combination of all colors.
Black is deep beneath the earth, so if you want something done fast black is the color that needs to be used.
