Ways to prevent discrimination of children in school

Hello,

I would like to find out about resources to help prevent discrimination in school for the children of wiccaneopagans.  My daughter is pagan, and my grandchildren will soon be in school. I believe in the COEXIST philosophy.  I am Christian, but believe all should have the freedom to choose their belief or nonbelief and that it should be respected.

Is there a way to support an organized movement about this?  I would be happy to do so.

Thank you and holiday salutations, Grandma Dawn

Having gone through it myself I suggest you leave things alone.  Teach the children and keep the way open for them to come and tell you and then adress it.

It tends to make the problems worse if adults interfere unless they are asked as the children have to deal with the fallout and life at school can be made a living hell for as children can be cruel as we all know.

If it happens talk to the teachers and the school head but keep to facts and if necessary bring someone with good knowledge along.  I say this as there is alot of misconception and misunderstanding about paganism and things could get messy.

It also helped me after I did an assignment on the subject for class and even got a few others interested.  Knowledge is power and the more you have the better prepared and armed you will be for any problems that can (and will) occur.

Just keep in mind that more wars have been fought (and still is) over religion than any other so sensitivity and diplomasy is needed and your children need to be taught that individuality and difference is ok and NORMAL is boring.  That way they can feel "special" and differece can make friends too.

Happy Halloween

Thank you, Sharon.  There is a lot of wisdom in what you say.  I will pass the info along to my daughter!  Dawn
