Recently, I went over to my sister's house and did a reading for her. She was on the computer so I laid out my cloth and other items I use when I read. She got a little miffed when I got started without her. The reading went fine without her "rules" and I felt that my deck was right on topic. Then we proceeded to use her deck for me (which she said she can never use on herself) with her rules. The reading was still in the general area but it felt like all of the old "superstitions" seemed to get in the way of a clear message. We then moved to runes and got a little tipsy. I like to read my Tarot cards and other oracle items the way they feel like being read. Does anyone else find that to be true or are the old superstitions to be adhered to?

When I use runes, which I haven't been doing for long, I don't feel like they have the same order that the tarot does. For instance, if I pull 3 tarot cards it's of course, past present future, in that order. I feel runes are more chaotic than that. I get the feeling they don't like order. They are sending a message, and it just is what it is. Just my thoughts.
Are you using them for divination or introspection? The thing that always helps me when I use my tarot is to remember that the deck is a tool of my subconcious. A key to a door if you will that unlocks my connection to a higher cognition. When I use the key to my house it doesn't randomly decide of it's own volition to lock the door instead of unlocking it it's my misuse or misunderstanding of it that causes the door not to open. There fore when using any type of divination tool I like to have a respect for my tool but I try not to give it motives of it's own.
The ritual of the tarot gives me time to order my thoughts so I can be receptive enough to interperet the meaning without bias.

Do you always read for yourself or do you read for other people too?
