I am solitary, mostly because I am in an area where everything is at a distance, and I also have not found any others (that I know of close to me) that share my interest in paths. I have a friend that follows a path, but we have not had a chance to discuss in any detail. So I may have someone to do some rituals with, although this would not really be considered a coven.
I watched a video recently of a coven doing a Solstice ritual/celebration, and I have to admit, I sure wished I was there. It looked wonderful. The ritual was very nice and then everyone shared food and there was games for the kids, etc. If I had a place like that near me I would check it out for sure. But as noted on some of the other post, I would not want to be locked down into someone elses ritual "process". Being Eclectic, I have quite an array of things on my altar as well as what I do during my celebrations (from Celtic to Native American, etc...) I posted a picture of my Solstice altar on my page if anyone is interested in seeing it :>)
Anyway, as of now, I shall be solitary...and I find comfort in that, it works for me...

I also find much concentration being a solitary... i feel the connection of my self to the magickal world better, coz for me it has to be personal--the connection of ur self to the magickal world... i like each moment when i personally tap those energies within me...and then.... magick begins....
I personally find that religion feels very personal and private... to me, anyway. Therefore, I remain solitary. I don't like adhering to other peoples' beliefs or guidelines when it comes to things like that.
Where I live I can't find a coven, so I am a ecclectic solitary; but have been lucky enough to have a personal teacher with over 6 generations of knowledge.. So I know I'm lucky in finding her...I'm also blessed to have found this site to share info and to learn from...Blessed Be..
To me it seems that the stories of covens are much like the stories I have of my young years in the catholic religion. The reasons are clear why we all have chosen this particular path in which to follow. My largest one is that I didn't want to be forced to believe what they wanted me to and that I could see the Great Mother in all things I do. I think that there4 should be a happy medium for all that combines the freedom of your own beliefs and the structure and kinship of the coven. For now and maybe forever I will be solitary. Because it feels good and that it what matters to me.
More often than not, I prefer to work as a solitary. I have done some rituals in a group, not quite a coven because they formed only for the one ritual. Since my first coven broke apart due to more infighting and back stabbing than I want to think about I have been almost afraid to join a coven.
Might sound pompous, because I'm a High Priestess. They are both good. Only problem with Solitary is for one, the same energy as with a Coven, will NEVER be found. The interaction. That being said, a Coven can and is hard. There's far too many that feel they are the " Only Ones " and demand attention, at ANY expense. It's also hard to get them to " think outside the box " and do a Ritual. I ONLY use the same Ritual for the Sabbots. ALL others are done by me. Reason is simple.... If one cannot find something in the coarse of one month to do a Ritual for, then they need go back to church and simply be sheep.
What you may not be told, and NOT for any selfish reason I have to add is, that in Covens, there are rules. In ours, that we are rebuilding in Palm Beach Gardens Floriduh is NO MAGICK until Initiated. Reason : If a student does NOT do the right thinking about ALL possibilities, Karma comes around, and it aint pretty. The Teachers ( Mentors ) get it the worst. Take it from one who was in 101 & ALL I wanted to do was a spell for EVERYTHING. A Lot of people ask us for the #1 wish... Love, but there could be SO much danger there. Think about that one ( ALL possibilities ). We do respect any student for how or what they think, and there have been times where we did what they suggested. Hope that helps ?

whoooaaaa.. i never knew that when you're in a group, when it backfires, the mentor is hit the worst.... hmmm thanks for the info... at least, through this forum, a lot of budding witches like me who is in the solitary, can gain knowledge... and of course, if one is after the progression of his craft, considering a coven may not be a bad idea at all.. thank you so much

ohhh... but at least you already know how it feels to be in a coven.... and like what i've said, it is only you who can decide and feel whether you r growing or not...it's absolutely up to you to be where you wanna be...
