I managed to keep a low profile ( I call it my invisibility spell) and stay out of trouble, but it was so distressing to see other kids dragged about by the hair or ears, I had a mini breakdown and my folks moved me to public school. The nun who made me most nervous was unpredictable and probably insane. She was "retired" the following year for locking a boy in a closet and forgetting him overnight.
My alienation from Catholicism started shortly during that time when: 1. I came to recognize vestiges of human sacrifice in the Mass and
2.when a question( regarding some miracle involving Mary-I forget) posed to the Monsignior, who was usually happy to answer, was stonewalled with"That's why we call it a Mystery". To me mysteries were made to be investigated or at least pondered.
What was your experience?

HI, Linda I lived in Chicago for 25 yearsbefore moving to a more rural area. We liked the forest preserves near Foster and Cicero (saw a fox and a bittern there!) and also along the bike trail. I also was raised Catholic, too, My folks were pretty casual about it , but Catholic school was kind of intense.
