We have the same problem here. Most of the time I just ignore them, of course there is the guilt thing but then again I remind myself that most of them are there by choice.
Some want to be homeless so that they don't have to answer to anyone.
Some made the choice to do the drugs that put them in the situation.
And some had no choice (loss of job, loss of home or forced out of their home).

While I agree that Ffawn has a good idea, I would proceed with caution on that one unless you can do that long term. Otherwise you may have to find a different route to work.

I think thoughts are just that ... thoughts. I have a little problem with racing thoughts (especially when I am on one of my caffeine highs lol) and some of my thoughts are pretty inappropriate... I don't act on them... they are just thoughts. For instance the other day I was angry about the bus system in the town I live in... long story... but my immediate thought was that I wished that someone would blow up the city hall that runs it. Did I mean it? No It was just a thought that came out of frustration, anger and helplessness to solve the problem.

I agree with Ffawn though! That is an excellent idea!

If you really feel guilty, perhaps if you carried something small...a sandwich, a little Debbie cake, loaf of bread, your old clothes etc. If someone asked you for money you could just give them whatever you have instead. That way you know they are not buying drugs or supporting their habit, but you did help them. You can buy a cheap box of snack cakes for about a buck, and theres 6-10 cakes per box. $1 or 2 a week is pretty cheap to relieve the guilt, and stop the homicidal thoughts, lol.
